Things I Am Loving Right Now…{Olympics Edition}

by enthusiasticrunner on June 15, 2012

This is the first Olympics that I am an USA citizen, and I’m super excited about it!  Before I got my US citizenship last year, I was always been TEAM CANADA.   This year, I get to root for two teams (dual citizenship FTW), which is very convenient when one team is loosing and the other is winning.

Anyway like everyone else in the USA (unless you have no soul), I am freaking out about the Olympics this summer.  Only 41 Days left until Opening Ceremonies.  BOOM.

Things I Am Loving Right…{London 2012 Olympics Edition}

1. Sparkly Soul USA Headband. (Thanks for the lovely hair modeling, Meggie)

2. Some Great Olympic Articles:

* Reed Kessler: Teenage Rider May Set the Bar
* Ryan Lochte: The Making of An Olympic Sex Symbol (Thanks, Christine)
* Where Are They Now? 1992 Olympic Gymnastic Dream Team
* 15 Male Athletes to “Watch” at the 2012 Olympics

3. London Calling Tee by Oiselle. Love this shirt.

4. Men’s 4×4 Freestyle Relay – 2008 Beijing Olympics. I could watch this video every day.

5. USA Olympic Track Suits. I have mixed feelings about these suits. (1) Aren’t these going to be hot? Temperature wise not “hawt”. (2) Are these for bobsledding? (3) But they look super cool, so I’m going to allow it (because I have executive decision over the USA Olympic dress code).

6. Lacoste Flag Polos. Well aren’t these fancy.

 7. Michael Phelps prepping for the Olympics. Now I am obsessed with eating 30 minutes after I work out. Gotta work on those (non-existent) abs.  Maybe I should start swimming 5 hours a day too?

8. London 2012 App. Already purchased.

9. Who is designing for each country? British Olympic Collection is designed by Stella McCarthy (see below. not too shabby). Australia Uniforms are designed by Adidas. Canada looks like its going to the Winter Olympics.  Check it out here.

10. Who lives in Canada and Can seriously get me a pair of these? Actually I need 4 pairs. DEAD SERIOUS.  I will pay for shipping costs and everything.

11. P&G London 2012 Olympic Games Film.  I really love this video because my mom never missed one of my sports games growing up (and I seriously mean she never missed one).  BUT, what about the Dads out there?  My Dad coached me growing up and he went to most of my games as well!

My Top Five Sports that I am looking forward to watching: (1) Equestrian (random, but I love watching the horses!) (2) Gymnastics (3) Swimming (4) Triathlon (5) Track & Field

What sports are you looking forward to watching?

Kelly June 15, 2012 at 6:20 pm

yayy, so excited for the Olympics! Gymnastics will always have a special place in my heart (thanks for that link about the ’96 team!), but I’m so excited for the marathon and track and field too. And swimming. Can’t wait!

that last video gives me chills and brought tears to my eyes… love it!

Bette June 15, 2012 at 9:06 pm

I’m so excited to watch swimming, diving, ALL track & field, gymnastics, rowing, taekwondo (diana lopez!) and pentathlon! Pentathlon is kind of weird, but it’s incredible to be so good at running, swimming, shooting, riding AND fencing.

Also, SI has a great countdown of the top 100 Olympic moments! http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/olympics/2012/photos/100greatestmoments/

Great name ; )

Ah! I love those glasses! They’re like the Canada HBC mittens that we all wear for the Winter Games! My sister is coming to France mid-July, I’m going to need her to bring me a pair!!

Also, I love that P&G video too. I sent it to my mom a while ago, and it made her cry!

Already am wearing holes in my Oiselle London Calling tee, and totally just downloaded that app. Have you picked up the Vogue Olympics issue?

I’m looking forward to all track and field events, the marathon, swimming, gymnastics and soccer. Oh, and Bob Costa, whose appearance is probably my favorite part of every Olympics.

Equestrian (cross country!!! I was in Greenwich last year and saw where they hold it which was so cool!), swimming, track and field, marathon. As a Brit it’s very exciting! But I gotta say, that track and field suit is just weird. And I know everything is covered, but it seems to make you even more naked, no?

Celia June 17, 2012 at 10:45 pm

Running and gymnastics. I wonder if other countries Madeira making similar sunglasses…

Celia June 18, 2012 at 10:13 am

I LOVE the apps!!

Robyn June 19, 2012 at 1:54 am

Weight lifting, table tennis, badminton, cycling (the one where they’re on the track) and the modern pentathlon (why not right?) Guess I’ll watch better watch some running events too… maybe speed walking? That’s still an Olympic sport right?

Christine June 19, 2012 at 10:44 am

whoa really cool story about becoming a US citizen!

i’m seriously wigging out about the olympics. i was equally obsessed in 96 when i was doing gymnastics at the time and there was the hoopla around the “magnificent seven.” this time around, it’ll be all about the marathon and swimming. ryan lochte is a god. a god. and also thanks for tweeting that article on andrew wheating. i got my eye on him too. mwaha.

Susan - Nurse on the Run June 24, 2012 at 11:24 am

Meggie is the best model ever.

Also, can we take off from work and just watch the Olympics the entire time? Good? Okay, see you there.

Susan - Nurse on the Run June 24, 2012 at 11:26 am

And because comments on closed on your fall marathon post and that’s just how far behind in blogs I am…my little Chicago heart is sad that maybe you don’t want to run Chicago! It’s a great city (I’m biased…) and the race is fun! But I understand…

Lizzie June 29, 2012 at 3:35 pm

The Olympics are my crack. I seriously cannot wait. LOVE that sparkly soul headband, but also those bobby pins are so cute!! Where did you get them?

If I could get away with living in a spandex suit like the US track uniforms, I would do it. I <3 spandex
