Things I Am Loving RIght 2.23.13

by enthusiasticrunner on February 23, 2013

It has been a while since I blogged, so I thought I would drive right in with what I have been loving lately. I’m working on a blog post on my current “running” status (aka Eugene Marathon Training. Ekk), and hopefully that will go up on Monday!

Things I Am Loving Right Now – 2.23.13

1. Oolong Tea. I am obsessed with this Oolong Tea that I bought at Kamwo Herbal Pharmacy, one of my favorite places in Chinatown.

2. Portlandia. This show is hysterical…and I’m semi-embarrassed that I just found out about it now. Here is one of my favorite clips for Season 1:

3. Chinese Medicine Books. I took out three books from the library on Chinese Medicine and I am completely fascinated by everything I’m reading. In the last six months I have been going to an Acupuncturist, and I can truly say it has been life changing. (Sidenote, but semi-related: I would like to book a vacation to The Sanctuary.) Annnnddd, here is one of the books I am currently reading in case you are interested:

4. Blog Read of the Week: This is my favorite blog read of the week by Laura on Comparison.  Great post, and something I think everyone can relate to.

5. Foursquare. I was totally late to the Foursquare party, but this App/Social network is incredible. Not only is it great for seeing what your friends are doing (aka stalking), but it has helped me find so many new restaurants (lots of gluten free pizza!). I haven’t used it when traveling yet, but I can see it being very helpful for finding gluten-free restaurants & fun local activities.

6. Great Reads: Knowing When to Pivot Your Career & How to Have A Year That Matters.

7. Hu Kitchen. Officially obsessed with this restaurant near Union Square. Everything is gluten-free, and they have some dairy-free/grain-free options as well. They have beer, wine, juice, an oatmeal bar, hot meals, cookies, pudding & flying unicorns…it’s that magical. They have Almond-Crusted Chicken Tenders that I am going to try to recreate using this recipe I found online. (Wish me good luck, I’m going to need it.)

8. “The Shoebox” by Chris Young. A country song from 2010 that I just re-discovered on an old playlist. Tearjerker.

9. Lake Champlain Chocolates. Just call me a chocolate snob because these truffles are to die for (and also $3.50 each!!! WTF). They were obviously a gift at work, not a self purchase, but I can’t go back to regular chocolate anymore.  Since the company headquarters is in Burlington, VT, I may be plotting a “camping/running/road trip” to the factory this summer.  MUST FIND FREE SAMPLES.

10. Skora Running Shoes. I just bought a new pair of Skora Running Shoes (30% Off select styles now!). Usually, I’m a Mizuno shoe girl, but I’ve been intrigued by Skora since last Fall (they are a great social media company). I will let you know what I think in the upcoming weeks, but look how cool they look:

I have the Skoras, too and I love them! I, too, am usually a Mizuno girl, but these are just so cute and funky. I do not run far distances in them, though.

I live in Portland and it’s actually scary funny how accurate (though extreme) the bits are. It is truly where young people go to retire! All of the places are real (I went to a friend’s wedding rehearsal dinner at the Firehouse and the meatballs are to die for), making it fun to see what they cook up next.

Oh my Joceyln, So glad I clicked on your post here. First off, Portlandia…funny. Was talking about it today with my massage therapist on the east side of Portland. That show definitely picks up on some funny things that make our city weird/different. Chinese Healing…so interested. I haven’t tried acupuncture yet but I have it on my list. Have you heard of Tong Ren? A Chinese Healing practice that a friend of mine travels to China to learn more about. And OH, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Thailand. My favorite place to travel and The Sanctuary is so worth going to if you get there! I knew just what you were talking about before I even clicked on the link and then when I saw that you were talking about the same place, it made me smile. So, my husband and I traveled to Thailand the first time for a month before kids…we backpacked and did it the young 20 something way. :) We stayed on the island of Koh Phagan for a week and we took a boat to the Sanctuary for a day. WE didn’t end up staying there that night because where we were staying on the other side of the island was only like $2 U.S a night and we were used to our simple budget. I think the Sanctuary was still affordable compared to what you’d pay here. It was heavenly! Yoga, massage, beautiful places to sleep! So worth going back to when we return. Our second visit to Thailand was when I was pregnant for with third kid so we didn’t have as long there and we were going for my brother’s wedding up north so we still didn’t get back but it is another thing on my list! Hope you get there.

Loved reading about what you’re loving here. I’m loving the massage I just had today, my Brooks Ravenna’s , and that I’m going to Napa Valley next week.

I guess the proper way to spell that would be Koh Pha Ngan…:) Trying to say it correctly was another story. Thank goodness my brother is fluent in Thai and he said everything for us or told us how to say it. :)

random question, but what do you think about horoscopes….

also, tell me your sign and i’ll tell you bout your LIFE

Portlandia is hilarious. And accurate since Carrie Brownstein is actually from Portland. Having lived in Oregon for a few years before college, I can say some people/parts of the state are totally like that. Last year there was a big divide in my dad’s town about banning plastic grocery bags, haha.

happy to see you back at blogging – looking forward to reading about your running!

I’ll be running Eugene full too!!!

New thing I love right now – strawberries coming back in season! Ugh..I gave up dessert for a month, that’s all that gets me excited. Hah.

You! I like you!

We need to start working on this foursquare stalking (er…meeting people) thing ASAP.

Are those lace-free shoes? I am INTRIGUED? Also, I get told I would love Portlandia all the time, but I am a bit over-extended right now in regards to TV. Maybe I’ll do a Netflix marathon someday. M

I’m loving all things lemon right now. It’s an obsession really. I’m squeezing fresh lemon on EVERYTHING!
