So This is Happening…

by enthusiasticrunner on May 18, 2012

Going to be completely honest: Not really sure how I am going to make it through 13.1 miles tomorrow. I’m still exhausted from the marathon two weeks ago, and I was debating today not running the Brooklyn Half tomorrow. But I figure I have the bib, why not just go run and have fun?

So I’m off to Brooklyn to Carla‘s apartment (she lives super close to the Brooklyn Half start)! BOOYAH! 4:30 am wake up call just turned into a 6 am wake up call. I win.

Then I am heading back to Connecitcut for the weekend to celebrate a couple Birthdays.

Super, crazy excited to have all 6 besties from High School in CT for the same night. See you girls tomorrow:

Also, Meggie found this article by Shawn Johnson titled “I was always trying to be a few pounds lighter. It’s a must read.

Have you ever run a race that you didn’t really want to run? Sign up for a race and then later back out? TELL ME.

So jealous…my wake up time is like 4:15 am!! Boo. I should probably be sleeping right now.

Good luck and have fun tomorrow!! Maybe I’ll see you out there – my bib is the same color so we are probably in the same corral :)

DC Rock N Roll half – had to back out because I wasn’t ready post-injury.

I say enjoy getting a tan tomorrow (tan not burn!), take walk breaks if you need it, and just enjoy a nice summer day.

Good luck tomorrow! I usually sign up for races long in advance and a few times that came back to haunt me. Like last year when I got a stress fracture and ended up on crutches two weeks before the Broad Street Run. And then a couple months later I had to switch to the 5k from a half marathon cause I wasn’t ready. It happens sometimes.

Sounds like you have a good plan though – have fun! It’s going to be a beautiful day!

I signed up for a summer race last year, right after I ran my 1st 1/2 marathon. It was an impulse sign-up, feeding off of my runner’s high, and when summer came, I had relocated to a new state with my husband and got lazy. It was too hot for training and so when race day came around, I skipped it. I felt really, really guilty. But then it poured rain really hard on race morning and I felt a bit better. hehe. It was an expensive race too, because it was a RnR one… My husband was not that happy about me skipping it.

I am SURE you will enjoy your race once you start running. Take in the sites, wave to the spectators, bring your phone and take photos if it is a scenic/fun race. Once you start moving, I think you’ll enjoy it. Good luck!

I’ve never backed out of a race but I have run races just for fun when I decided I didn’t want to or shouldn’t be racing them. Just enjoy the run and have fun!

I don’t want to run this morning :(

Sorry I forgot to ask how it went yesterday! Looking forward to catching up soon.

A little bird told me you still rocked it, but just want to say it’s A-OK to take a race easy so soon after a marathon. Recovery isn’t supposed to happen overnight! I ran a 5K the week after the Houston Marathon and felt like I was hoofing it. Go you. :)

I am currently signed up for a half that I shouldn’t run due to an injury. Since I convinced a bunch of other people to run it, it’s making me crazy!
