Running Things I Didn’t Think Were Possible

by enthusiasticrunner on February 22, 2012

Running Things That I Didn’t Think Were Possible, BUT Are Possible.

It’s Possible…

1. To be a night runner and a morning runner.  Usually not at the same time.  Let’s not go crazy!  90% of the time I am running in the morning, but lately I have been loving the night run…it’s probably just a phase.

2. To listen to ONE SONG during an 18 mile run. That’s right, I had one song on repeat for 18 miles.  The first six miles it was because I wanted to listen to the song.  Miles 6 -12: I forgot to change the song, and I was focusing on what I was going to eat.  Miles 12 – 18: It was raining so I didn’t want to pull my iPhone out of the pocket.

So yes for 2 hours and 46 minutes I listened to this song on repeat:

Kind of random song. But its new download…aaaand now I know all the lyrics.

3. To run 18 miles when you were only supposed to run 4.

4. To fall a sleep with your sports bra on. There by forcing yourself to run early in the morning.

5. To love Three-Day Weekends MOSTLY because I get to run when the sun is shining bright. And in Connecticut…

6. To be happy that I signed up for a Spring Marathon. And very happy for the winter weather (or lack there of) in NYC.

7. To realize how much of a difference having a running coach can make. I’m SHOCKED at my tempo pace.  I am even shocked I have a tempo pace…I didn’t even have tempo runs before Dorothy.  And Dorothy keeps motivating me through each run. Why didn’t I get a running coach sooner?? Oh and she approves of babyfood for mid-run fueling.

8. To NOT think about work when running. Every time I start to focus on work when I’m running I have to remind myself that running is my break from work.

9. To wonder how SOME runners in NYC don’t have twitter? How else does anyone find a running buddy on Tuesday at 7 pm without Twitter?

On that note, I will leave you with this fantastic photo.  Now I will always think about being chased by a dinosaur and hopefully that will keep up my tempo run pace…

LOVE.

One song – wow! :) And I’ve never thought about getting a running coach but I’m slow. Might look into it. Keep up the great running!

Nice post. I find strong resonance in some of the items on your list – particularly #1, #3, and #8. I haven’t tried listening to music on a 18 miler. Perhaps it’s worth trying.

I am still in shock about this whole you listened to ONE SONG for 18 miles thing!!! I’ve listened to a few songs many many times during races but never just repeat the whole time!

I can not imagine listening to the same song for 18 miles…wow! And that last picture is priceless!

I liked that song…thanks for sharing…can’t imagine listening to the same one for that quite that long. I’ve listened to the same song 4 or 5 times in a row but that’s usually my max!

You are getting stronger! It makes me so happy that you now have a tempo pace. Keep up the AWESOME work – I see LOTS of pr’s in your future!

I slept in my sportsbra last night to save myself 30 seconds this morning!

I have done that too before! I listened to one song during my first half. Unfortunately it was a bad race and therefore I can no longer listen to it LOL Keep up the good work girl, Dorothy will get you reaching those PR’s. She’s awesome & super speedy!

No one (that I know) in TX has Twitter! I’m sure people think my blog is silly, too…

Nice run! I see PRs in your future! :)

I love night runs! They’re fun, I promise. :)

One song that whole time is UNBELIEVABLE. Kudos to you :)

I am training for my first full marathon as well and I’m so glad this ‘winter’ has been so gracious. It’s easy to get 16+ mile runs in when there’s not 8 inches of snow!

Love this post! Good lord how did you listen to one song for 18 miles?? And go out for 4 but come back 14 miles later? Love it!

Great list! I have killed many a song by listening to it on repeat on longs runs. I’ve never run 18 miles though- that is a loooong way! I am about the same ratio as you, 90% morning runner. I’ve never had a running coach but maybe one day! I think I want one. :)

Wow, I cannot believe that you listened to the same song for an entire 18 miler! That is some serious song love.

Also, I’m jealous you have a running coach. I’d love one but I’m not sure I could afford it. Maybe one day!

Laura February 25, 2012 at 5:01 pm

I cannot BELIEVE you listened to one song for that long! I think I max out on a song after like 20 minutes (and only when I’m at home doing other stuff; I’ve never tried to listen to a song on repeat while actually running).

Amanda@ Let Me Be What's Underneath February 25, 2012 at 5:17 pm

Love this post—glald you had a great run. I could totally listen to one song throughout an entire run as well! If it’s a good one, why not? :)

The fact that you listened to the same song for 18 miles is even more amazing considering the song is not even 3 minutes long. I can’t even imagine.

Also I love night runs, I know you’re not suppose to exercise and then go right to bed, but sometimes I go on runs at 11pm, and I’ve gone as late as 1am. I know, I’m a weirdo.
