Just A Couple of Items…

by enthusiasticrunner on May 29, 2012

I’m back from a lovely vacation visiting the ‘rents in Bermuda.  This place never ever gets old.

Honestly I went for one run when I was in Bermuda which is unusual for me because usually all I want to do is run when I am in paradise. So obviously I need this running break (which I am currently taking). I did however swim my little heart out. How can you not in this beautiful ocean?

Magical.

Sister and I before dinner.

Anyway, I will be back tomorrow talking about my plans for running (and triathlons!) in the next couple of weeks but for now I wanted to bring up Mad Men from Sunday. WHAT A FREAKING AWESOME EPISODE. If you haven’t watch it yet, stop reading right now because I’m about to give away some plot details.

First of all, Peggy. Freaking. Olson.

I know I have talked before about Jobs I Will NEVER have (Part 2 coming soon), but if I had to list a job that I WANT (purely based on a TV show) then I have wanted Peggy Olson’s job since Season 2 when she officially became a Copywriter.  Sitting around all day coming up with creative advertising campaigns?  Yes please!

On top of it, how badass is Peggy Olson’s character?  After she quits, she basically had Don Draper begging her to stay.  When has Don Draper every begged anyone for anything?

During the episode, Peggy is offered a salary of $19,000 to switch companies, which peaked my interested, especially after reading this article a couple of weeks ago. So I found a website that calculates Peggy’s salary in 1967 to the amount in 2012. Here is what I found out:

$130K to be a Copywriter?!? Am I the only one shocked by this??   SIGN ME UP.  I’ve already started googling “How to become a copywriter”.   No but seriously if anyone has any connections let me know.

WHAT IS YOUR “TV” DREAM JOB?

Talk show host. Or GMA or Today Show anchor.

Party planner. Too bad it would probably be a nightmare of a job but in my dreams it would be amazing.

WOW!

I used to be a copywriter and I can guarantee I didn’t make anything close to that! Also, Bermuda. Just wow!

Oh my gosh I love Mad Men. I have been watching it on Netflix and am slowly catching up to the actual show (right now I’m on season 3). But sometimes it makes me sad seeing how constrained everyone is by the 1960s expectations of the way they ought to be. Especially the women. That’s why Peggy is the greatest! She doesn’t get sucked into being the stereotypical secretary.
Okay, off the feminist, Mad Men-loving rant. Your vacation to Bermuda looks amazing! I wish my parents lived near an ocean like that!

I want to be freeloading uncle Joey who occasionally holds a job…no really. I would love to be Martha Stewart. She’s got it going on.

Bermuda is just lovely! As are you and your sis :)

My T.V. dream job would be to have a show like The Tonight Show. Or be the travel person…the one who goes to all sorts of super cool places all expenses paid and then tells everyone the ins and outs and goods and bads of it all.

First time visitor of your blog – it’s awesome! Bermuda looks pretty awesome and it sounds like a well deserved break from running. You’ve been busy girl!

Dream TV job? Hmmm…probably a column writer (I immediately think of a “How to lose a Guy in Ten Days” situation)

Oh that’s a good one!! I actually kind of want to just write that as a post.
